about
Branwen wrote this song after reading Nick Cave's debut novel "And the Ass saw the Angel" when they were 17. It was such a dark book that Branwen felt that this song was a necessary result.
This song was nearly lost forever when the twins decided to scrap it, but it was brought back to life when it was found on an old hard-drive.
The twins met a hurdy-gurdy player called David Flowerkraut on the streets of Galway and invited him down to record for the day on this song in 2013 for a very epic solo!
Nicolas Cooper, their long time friend and collaborator brought a special edge to this song with his famous double stop expertise on the fiddle. Nicholas was always on the edge of telling a hilarious joke in studio and made recording a delight.
lyrics
I was born to a husky hag
And I grew up in a rusted shack
And down in the valley was a dirty old town
And oh how the rain, how the rain poured down
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And she said maybe, you’re a liar
I’ve always tried to keep my tongue in check
And oh how she cried when I broke her neck
I was always striving to be so good
Mama’s little angel misunderstood
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And she said maybe, you’re a liar
What did I find up in the woods
A jagged old dagger underneath my foot
And after midnight I’d go hunting down
All the dirty old beggars in that dirty old town
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And she said maybe, you’re a liar
Oh how I moaned when the blood poured down
And oh how I howled when they shot her down
She should have been buried way up high
That was no way for my love to die
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And she said maybe, you’re a liar
I think maybe I’m going to hell
When they bring my coffin they won’t bring no bell
I’m going to burn for my sins in a fire
Why, cos my sister says that I’m a liar
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And I said wo ho sister tell me what have I done
And she said maybe, you’re a liar

Songs for Three Voices, if consumed correctly, should induce an out of body experience as well as grounding conviction.
If you have a moment to feel the expanse of your own heart, why not? Smugo
The Mary Wallopers are one of the finests bands from the actual Irish folk scene. Playing traditional tunes with great talent and a sophisticated sense of humor ;)
I hope to be able to see them live, on a stage or on a session as soon as possible ! mael_true_x
