about
An old poem that Branwen wrote was turned into a song one evening. Branwen came to Julie with the song idea and Julie played the bass note on Branwen's guitar as they rehearsed it. Julie applied her usual psychic harmonies to the song during the rehearsal and her confidence as a performer and their shared delight in the strange carried a lot of these ideas out of the rehearsal space and onto the stage. And so they brought this intimate moment of the two playing the guitar at once onto the stage.
Dylan Gully brought a lot of magic to this particular song with his low whistle. He can also be heard with his amazing clarinet across a lot of the album. He is a highly responsive and intuitive musician and created most of what he did on the spot. It was incredible to witness and we rarely needed a second take.
There is a tentative call and response between Julie and Branwen on piano and banjo which happened at the end of a studio day with Gavin Glass. It remains one of the sweetest memories from the second recording sessions.
lyrics
Poison Arrow
You are the teeth of my saw
You are the jagged edge
You are the crows wild hoarse caw
You are the thorns in the hedge
You are the wild grass growing
You are the air
You are the dark blood flowing
Blood of the hare
You are the rope I follow
You lead me blind
You are the lies I swallow
You are unkind
I am the fool who loves you
I am unwise
I am afraid to lose you
You who I despise
You are the poisoned arrow
Shot through my chest
You are the old wheelbarrow
My fears infest

Songs for Three Voices, if consumed correctly, should induce an out of body experience as well as grounding conviction.
If you have a moment to feel the expanse of your own heart, why not? Smugo
The Mary Wallopers are one of the finests bands from the actual Irish folk scene. Playing traditional tunes with great talent and a sophisticated sense of humor ;)
I hope to be able to see them live, on a stage or on a session as soon as possible ! mael_true_x
